'advertising Will Not Decide Us Presidential Campaign' New York (ContentDesk) June 15, 2004 -- One of America's leading political advertising veterans says that the millions of dollars being spent by George W Bush Jr. and John Kerry in the current US Presidential election campaign will not decide the winner. In an interview with www.mediabuddies.com, Tom Messner, who helped mastermind campaigns for Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr., said that so far, Bush had the most effective commercial. "It was one that used a piece of footage in which Kerry, answering a question posed by a voter, said: 'Actually I voted for that bill...just before I voted against it.'"Of Kerry, Messner said: "He doesn't seem, in advertising, to know how to attack yet or perhaps he is holding back the attack ads. He is losing the economic issue, and is faced
with the need to win on security and wartime leadership. I thought several months ago that this election would not be decided by advertising nor debates - that events would matter most. It still looks that way." Messner, a founder of Euro RSCG MVMBS, says that Bush should "emphasize and re-emphasize the magnitude of the economic recovery in the swing states" while Kerry has to "rise above flip-flopisms and not talk like someone in a political action seminar at St. Paul's Academy".Note to Editors. The full interview with Tom Messner can be found at www.mediabuddies.com, the reunion and networking club for the media industry worldwide.
